Social Football & Hurling

Social Football and Hurling are small-team games with modified rules which cater for players, both women and men, of all ages and skill levels, who wish to play for fitness and fun! They are non-physical and non-competitive, but with their own specially devised rules. These include ‘exclusion zones for scoring’, ‘bonus goals’, ‘score first touch only’ and they invariably produce a fast, challenging, exiting, end to end contest!

The number of members playing Social Football at the moment is approximately sixty – yes sixty! Sessions are held on Wednesdays at 9pm and Saturdays at 5pm, with an extra mid-week session being planned.

Social Hurling is going very well on Monday nights at 9pm. The main organisers (all dual players!) are Peter O’Donovan, Tom O’Sullivan, Simon Woods and Mick Kissane. Have a chat with them if you are interested, or ring Mick on 8460805.

Special Needs

Special needs is part of general Social and Recreational Games, and provides the opportunity for all members of the community to enjoy football and hurling, and to be fit and healthy. In Naomh Mearnog two sessions are held on a weekly basis: Tuesday evenings from 7pm to 8pm, and Saturday mornings from 9.45am to 10.45am. As we have plans to expand this project, we would be delighted to hear from anyone who would like to join our ‘coaching staff’. Please contact: Tom O’Sullivan, Gerry Noble, Ciaran Kenny, Louise James, Aisling Gogarty or Mick Kissane (8460805).
